Berlin: The Guy's Guide to Berlin Romance: "
Berlin's grim history is less than enchanting. But that's not to say one can't find love in the German hauptstadt. No, I don't mean with those girls in uniform bustiers on Oranienburgerstrasse. (Really, do not go looking for love there.) I mean along the tree-lined streets of Unter den Linden with your girl. Come now, it's not so kitsch. The Linden leaves are all shaped like little hearts. Then there are loads of treats for the senses to conjure up a little romance. Not currywurst, the gritty aesthetic of Alexanderplatz, the dusty smell kicked up by deconstruction of the Palast der Republik, the sound of jackhammers, or the feel of that autumn dampness setting in. I'm talking about sweets, pretty things, perfume, and other such bits of love candy ... all with a nice Berlin twist. Here's a selection of our favorites, from the subtle to the outrageous. (Pictured left: The Treptower pinkler sprinkles love and happiness. Wie süß.)
